Jim Bethke directs the Bexar County Managed Assigned Counsel Office, which appoints and supports the private lawyers who defend indigent clients in the county's courts, a post he took in November 2021. His career in indigent defense runs through the Texas Indigent Defense Commission, Harris County Justice Administration, Harris County Pretrial Services and the Lubbock Private Defender Office.
He chairs the board of the Office of Capital and Forensic Writs, is a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, taught as an adjunct professor at Texas Tech University School of Law, and served in the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division. He is a graduate of the University of Texas at Tyler and Texas Tech University School of Law.
