CRIMINAL DEFENSE ATTORNEY ELECTION
FOR BEXAR COUNTY BAIL BOND BOARD (BCBBB)

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 2023

Pursuant to Section 1704.053 of the Texas Occupations Code, all criminal defense
attorneys whose principal place of business is located in Bexar County and who are not
legally prohibited from representing criminal defendants shall, by secret ballot, elect a
criminal defense attorney, whose principal place of business is located in Bexar County,
in person to the BCBBB as follows:
a. The BCBBB Administrator shall maintain a ballot box on February 17 th , 21 st and
22 nd , 2023 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., excluding 12 to 1 p.m. The ballot box will
be located in the Paul Elizondo Tower, BCBBB Administrator’s Office, 101 W.
Nueva, Suite 351, SAT 78205. All ballots must be received no later than 5:00
p.m. on February 22, 2023. Ballots received after the deadline will not be
counted.
b. The results will be announced during the Board meeting on February 23, 2023 @
2:00 p.m., in the Paul Elizondo Tower, 101 W. Nueva, 10 th Floor, SAT 78205
b. The term of office is one (1) year, starting March 1, 2023.
c. The elected criminal defense attorney must attend the BCBBB meetings on the
last Thursday of each month at 2:00 p.m., unless otherwise scheduled.

The Fiesta Advanced Criminal Defense CLE will help its attendees provide professional and ethical assistance to citizens accused of crimes. Each of the topics is designed to allow both the novice and advanced criminal defense practitioner to use the information and resources immediately in defense of clients. The experienced speakers from around Texas and specially designed curriculum promise to provide current invaluable insight and trial skills to all who attend.

CLE 11.25 hours, including 2.0 hours of ethics. The Texas Board of Legal Specialization has approved this course for 11.25 hours in the specialty fields of Criminal Appellate, Criminal Law, and Juvenile Law.

Seminars sponsored by CDLP are funded by a state grant administered by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals.

Dear SACDLA Memebers and Non-Members;

When I first thought to form this committee, I suggested it during a Board meeting after we had suffered a dual trauma of the loss of two excellent attorneys. I did not want to see a repeat of such loss and wanted to create something that might help be a lifeline or, at the very least, a sympathetic ear. Sometimes all it takes is for someone to listen. As we see in the news now every night, there is an importance to listening and acknowledging someone else's troubles. There always has been.

To that end, I am publishing the current Wellness Committee members who have volunteered to offer informal support and be a resource for us all if needed:

I personally have taken two calls in the past two months and both individuals just needed an ear and to vent. Neither were in crisis, thankfully. In fact, I enjoyed my conversations with both of them. I look forward to a time when we can all get together over drinks or music or both and just talk and visit with one another.

Re:               Satellite CM Warrant Magistration Process

The following is a pilot program we are testing out to better assist in the satellite booking process.   

Currently this will only be available on Wednesdays. If an Attorney wants to surrender a client on active Felony CM Warrant at the Satellite office they must contact the County Central Magistrate Judge@ 210-335-6112 or 210-335-6114 by Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. in order to get a bond set.   Once everything is in place the bondsman or attorney can surrender the client on Wednesday @ 8:30 a.m. to be booked and magistrated thru the Satellite office.  

This process is only available on Felony CM warrants at this time.

Please keep in mind that the Satellite Office can  NOT process the following, and they will need to go to the South Tower (Magistrate)/Jail for processing:

·         Out of County or Out of State warrants

·         GPS hold as a condition of bond, unless

• orders with days to install the device signed by the judge presiding over the case, or
• currently wearing the GPS device

·         Sexual Charge (of any type or severity)

Additionally: Attorneys can also approach the Judge to request bonds on Post Indicted Warrants and County Court Fugitive warrants so they can be processed thru the Satellite office.
